As a part of our Saturdays program, the 2019 second annual Polished Pebbles Mommy & Me…..Girls are exposed to a variety of things via hands-on activities focused on the arts, etiquette, communication, health and wellness, career exploration, and much more — all in a safe and welcoming environment with women who are interested in the girls futures.
The 2019 second annual Polished Pebbles Mommy & Me Career Day Conference brings together girls and moms, aunts, grandmothers and mentors to learn with each other and from each other about career building at any age. In addition to a riveting keynote from Cook County State’s Attorney, Kim Foxx, Moms and girls enjoyed a fashion show sponsored by Ann Taylor, and other engaging activity stations throughout the day: Shark Tank Pitch, Mindfulness & Health Checkup, Build a Business Card and LinkedIn. The conference concluded with the Mommy & Me Dynamic Duo game show. Guest presenters included: Nikki Hayes, Proprietor of Pier31; Janice Wilson, Sergeant, Chicago Police Department; Erin Diehl, CEO of Improve It!; Chris Curse, International Hair Stylist & Philanthropist. The Chicago Urban League was a presenting sponsor.
At Polished Pebbles we seek to ensure the employability of young women in the future workplace through mentoring initiatives that help girls to become great communicators, at home, school, and work. The Polished Pebbles Mommy & Me Career Conference and summer workshops allow moms and daughters to build stronger bonds & SHINE by building job readiness skills & creating visions for future careers and businesses TOGETHER.
Polished Pebbles founder, Kelly Fair, spoke to the need for this event, “Through the years, we started getting requests from many of the girls’ moms who mentioned they were in need of the very same workforce development training to either jump-start their own professional pursuits, or perhaps receive tool kits equipping them to pursue that dream business.”
